Keeping a Hunting Journal
I have been keeping a hunting journal since my first hunt. I think it was a great idea by my dad to give me a journal after my first hunt. It is a great way to keep your memories and look back on them in the years to come. I know that I only have about 30 posts or so in it, but even now at 15 I still look back at my first hunt and first animal I killed. I can not imagine how cool it will be to look back on it in 40 years from now! I will be amazed at how much action I had in just my first 5 years of hunting alone. I can just imagine how many posts I will have in it by the age of 40, I will probably have 3 books worth! No matter how many entries I have, I will always be glad my dad had given me this opportunity to keep a journal of all my hunts.
If you are a dad, or mom, and have a kid that is just begging to hunt I strongly suggest you get them a journal and have them write in it after every outing they have. It doesn't matter if you got totally skunked, or if you killed a 12 point monster! It is just about the memories of the hunt that matter. I would have never thought of writing in a journal after my hunting trips if it wasn't for my dad. When he was a kid he never wrote in a journal and regrets it because he, like me, would like to know about all of his outings, his first hunt, date of first turkey he kiled, etc. Since he didn't keep a journal he doesn't have the resources to go back and enjoy all of his hunts.
I strongly encourage you to have your kids keep a journal of all of their hunts if they aren't already.
